2018 Malene Rosé Magnum

2018 Malene Rosé Magnum

The 2018 vintage is the cuvée most reminiscent of Provence to date. On the nose, the wine has a purity of fruit with notes of white peach, citrus and wet stones. The wine blooms on the palate with flavors of ripe stone fruit, cantaloupe, and tangy citrus. The wine's texture declares its California origins with opulence, plenty of mid-palate texture and an elegant finish.

The majority of grapes for Malene Rosé are grown in California’s Santa Barbara County, a multi-faceted growing region moderated by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Just as the vineyards of France’s Provence are influenced by the closeness of the Mediterranean Sea, the vines of Santa Barbara County are likewise shaped by the cooling breezes and fogs that sweep in from the Pacific.

Santa Barbara County
The warm, long growing season in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County is about as Provençal as it gets in California. We source Grenache and Cinsault from two vineyards in this area: Camp 4 and Zaca Mesa. Camp 4 was planted to Rhone varietals by Fess Parker and is now owned by the Chumash Indian tribe. It has become one of the top sources for Rhones in the Santa Ynez Valley. Both vineyards are planted on sandy loam soils, ideal for these naturally vigorous varietals, and experience cool afternoon breezes blowing east from the Pacific through the Santa Rita Hills.

Paso Robles
We source from Vista Serrano Vineyard in Paso Robles, which is predominantly clustered around the cooling effect of the Templeton Gap. While Paso Robles is a relatively warm AVA, this area, located adjacent to a gap in the coastal range, has the greatest maritime influence and is well suited to growing Rhone based Rose grapes.

Food Pairing

Like a fine, dry white wine, Malene Rosé can be enjoyed with a wide variety of foods. Its layered versatility allows for easy entertaining in environments both casual and formal. Well-suited to picnics and barbecues, its impeccably balanced texture and crisp acidity make the wine an equally elegant match for refined dishes possessing complex flavors.
