2019 Camp 4 Vineyard Rosé of Mourvedre
VineyardsThe warm, long growing season in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County is about as Provençal as it gets in California. Camp 4 Vineyard was planted to Rhone varietals by Fess Parker and is now owned by the Chumash Indian tribe. It has become one of the top sources for Rhone grapes in the Santa Ynez Valley. The vineyard is planted on sandy loam soils, ideal for these naturally vigorous varietals, and experiences cool afternoon breezes blowing east from the Pacific through the Santa Rita Hills.
WinemakingPicked in the cool of the night, grapes typically arrive at the winery by 7 am where they are gently fed into a state-of-the-art inert gas press where the grapes are blanketed with nitrogen during the press cycle and not exposed to any air. The resulting juice is settled to reduce solids then racked to fermentation vessels for a long cool fermentation. The juice is carefully protected at every stage with inert gas to prevent any oxidation and preserve the delicate color, flavor, and aroma. This wine does not see any malolactic fermentation as we want to preserve high natural acidity. This wine is not vegan.
